New Albany Founders Day
Helen Pestel is a 1945 graduate of New Albany High School who earned her Bachelor of Science degree in
Chemistry from Ohio University in 1960. She then went on to get an MBA from The Ohio State University in
1973 and worked for Battelle Institute as a Research Scientist until her retirement in 1990. She continued to
work for Battelle on a part-time basis until 1999.

Helen was married to the late Ted Pestel, and has been a resident of Plain Township since 1991. She is the
step-mother to three children, grandmother to seven (3 of whom are also alumni of NAHS) and great-
grandmother three times over. Helen has been active in the New Albany Lions Club since 1991, acting as a
Central Ohio Trustee to the Ohio Lions Eye Research Foundation since 2002, secretary since 2005 and
former President of the organization as well.

Helen served the Greater Columbus Habitat for Humanity since 1991. She’s been an active member of the
New Albany-Plain Township Historical Society since 1995, serving as Secretary for two years and currently
serves as the Treasurer. In addition, Helen has been the Financial Secretary of the New Albany United
Methodist Church since 2006 and is also active in the Missions program at the New Albany United
Methodist Church.
